Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)
Custom Vision After Cataract Surgery

We offer two advanced methods for helping you see clearly once again, ICL and RLE surgery.

Let’s compare and contrast RLE to other ways of healing one's vision.

Revolutionizing Cataract Surgery with Adjustable Vision

At Summit Eye Care, we are proud to offer the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) that allows your vision to be customized after cataract surgery. Unlike standard lenses, the LAL is uniquely designed to be adjusted to your specific vision needs after implantation, giving you the ability to preview and refine your vision for optimal clarity.

How Does the Light Adjustable Lens Work?
The LAL is implanted during your cataract surgery just like a traditional IOL. However, what makes it different is its ability to be modified post-surgery using a series of painless light treatments. These treatments allow your eye doctor to fine-tune your vision based on your lifestyle and personal preferences.

What to Expect with the LAL Process

  • Cataract Surgery & Lens Implantation – The Light Adjustable Lens is placed in your eye during standard cataract surgery.

  • Healing Period – Your eye will take a few weeks to heal before vision adjustments begin.

  • Light Treatments for Customization – Using a special Light Delivery Device (LDD), your doctor will adjust and refine your vision over a few sessions.

  • Final Lock-In – Once your desired vision is achieved, the lens is locked in place, ensuring long-term clarity.

Why Choose the Light Adjustable Lens?

✔️ Customized Vision – Adjust your prescription after surgery for optimal clarity.
✔️ Reduced Dependence on Glasses – Studies show LAL patients are twice as likely to achieve 20/20 vision without glasses compared to standard monofocal IOLs.
✔️ Preview Your Vision – See and compare vision outcomes before finalizing adjustments.

Am I a Candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens?

The LAL is ideal for patients undergoing cataract surgery who have corneal astigmatism (at least 0.75 diopters) and want the ability to customize their vision post-surgery. However, certain conditions may prevent patients from receiving the LAL, including:
❌ Preexisting macular disease
❌ History of herpes eye infections
❌ Inability to comply with post-surgery light treatments & UV protection

Important Considerations

After surgery, patients must wear UV-protective glasses during all waking hours for 4-5 weeks to prevent unintended vision changes. Failure to comply could result in unexpected vision loss or the need for additional surgery.
