Aqueous deficiency is a type of dry eye caused by the body not producing enough tears. While it is challenging to treat, we have several solutions. One is punctal occlusion. This is a painless procedure in which the puncta (small openings in the corners of the eye or tear ducts) are blocked to decrease the outflow of tears that drain away from the eye, leading to more on the on the ocular surface. The insertion of punctal plugs is an in-office procedure that is well tolerated and helps aid the treatment of dry eye.
