At Summit Eye Care, we offer Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), a proven laser treatment for patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. SLT is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that helps lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by improving the eye’s natural drainage system—often reducing or eliminating the need for daily glaucoma drops.
SLT uses a low-energy laser to stimulate specific cells in the trabecular meshwork, the drainage tissue of the eye. This targeted treatment helps increase fluid outflow, which reduces pressure inside the eye without damaging surrounding tissue. The laser selectively treats only the pigmented cells, making SLT both safe and repeatable if needed.
✔️ Quick, in-office procedure (typically 5–10 minutes)
✔️ No incisions or stitches required
✔️ Minimal discomfort and quick recovery
✔️ Can reduce or eliminate the need for glaucoma eye drops
✔️ Safe to repeat if additional pressure lowering is needed
SLT is typically recommended for patients who:
Have primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
Are looking to reduce dependence on daily eye drops
May have trouble adhering to a drop schedule or are experiencing side effects
Need additional pressure control despite being on medication
Your eye doctor at Summit Eye Care will determine if SLT is right for you during a comprehensive glaucoma evaluation.
Before the procedure: You’ll receive eye drops to prepare the eye and help reduce IOP.
During the procedure: A laser is directed at the drainage area of your eye. Most patients feel little to no discomfort.
After the procedure: You may experience mild irritation, but most patients resume normal activities within a day. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor results.
If you’ve been diagnosed with glaucoma or ocular hypertension and want to explore laser therapy options, SLT may be a safe and effective alternative to daily medications.
